TL;DR: Our crane operators always put safety first. From correct rigging and monitoring weight tolerances to clear radio communication – we ensure a safe and efficient construction site without shortcuts.
At KSR CRANES, we deliver the most important thing to the construction site when working with heavy equipment – experienced and reliable crane operators who follow health and safety regulations to the letter. Working with multi-tonne precast concrete elements forgives no mistakes, and that is why our specialists are your guarantee for a smooth and safe process.
What do our crane operators focus on daily during assembly? Here are the principles we follow on every construction site!
1. Full qualification and knowledge of rigging
Our crane operators, who operate cranes with a capacity of over 8 tonne-metres, hold the mandatory state certificates. What is important to note is that this certificate automatically means the crane operator has full qualifications and knowledge in rigging (correct attachment of loads). Although it is the fitters on the ground who attach the load, our crane operator knows exactly what to look for to ensure a safe lift.
2. Awareness of loads and weight tolerances
Our crane operators know well that dry figures from documentation should be taken with a grain of salt. Precast elements can have a weight tolerance of up to ±10%. Therefore, the crane operator from KSR CRANES always ensures that the crane has a sufficient capacity reserve and does not operate at the limit of its capability. If any doubt arises (e.g., about the load's actual weight), our employee is obligated to immediately stop work until it is clarified.
3. Flawless communication with the assembly team
The crane is a machine, but a successful assembly is teamwork. Our crane operators maintain constant contact with the fitters (the so-called riggers).
- Over the radio, we use the fixed rule: "THINK – PRESS – TALK".
- With visual contact, we rely on clear hand signals.
- The absolute rule: When the crane operator hears or sees the command "Stop", the machine is stopped unconditionally and immediately.
4. Control of the working area and weather conditions
From the crane cabin, you can see more. Crane operators from KSR CRANES are strictly prohibited from moving loads over areas where people are present or working (these areas must be properly cordoned off). Our people also continuously monitor weather conditions. Crane work becomes difficult already at wind force 6 on the Beaufort scale, and at wind force 9 it is outright dangerous. With us, you can be sure that safety always wins over haste.
5. Patience when unhooking the load
Our crane operator will never release the load from the hook until a clear confirmation has been given by the assembly team. According to procedures, vertical precast elements must have at least two secure bracing points (e.g., two diagonal braces) before the weight is transferred to the structure. The crane operator from KSR CRANES waits as long as necessary for you to safely stabilise walls or columns.
